NEURO DIAGNOSTIC
There are two general types of neurodiagnostic tools:

Electrical impulse detection : which examine the electrical impulses of the body's nervous system to determine if the system's functioning.

  1. Electroencephalograph(EEG)
  2. Nerve Conduction Study / Electromyogrphy(NCS/EMG)
  3. Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER)
  4. Visual Evoked Response(VER)
  5. Somato Sensory Evoked Response(SSEP),(upper/lower)
  6. Blink Reflex Study
  7. Repetitive nerve stimulation test
  8. Tremor analysis

Imaging or Scans : which show pictures of the anatomy and /or biochemistry of the body.

  1. X-ray /computerized tomography(CT)
  2. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  3. Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy(MRS)
  4. Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography(SPECT)
  5. Positron Emission Tomography(PET)scans

Neuro Electrophysiological tests

  • Electroencephalograph(EEG): The "brain wavetest" An EEG records the electrical activity of the brain.

  • EEGs assist in the diagnosis of :-
    1. Variety of neurological problems from head aches & dizziness to seizure disorders/epilepsy,encephalitis, non epileptic seizure, metabolic encephalitis, non epileptic seizures, metabolic encephalopathy, focal structural lesions, non Epileptic seizure, Strokes & degenerative brain disease.

    2. For organic causes of psychiatric symptoms & disabilities in children & to determine irreversible brain death.

  • Nerve Conduction Study/Electromyography(NCS/EMG): NCV/EMG test evaluates the health of the muscles & nerves by measuring electrical activity. Helps in Diagnosis of neuropathy, radiculopathy, plexopathy, mypathy, motor neuron disease etc.

These test are useful in those patients who paresent with any of the following symptoms: Weakness or pain or impairment of sensation or any abnormal fasciculation, tremor, jerks of any par of body or whole.

  • Evoked potentials(EP): Evoked Potentials test the sensory Pathways i.e Visual (VEP), Auditory (BAER) & skin sentation (SSEP)

    1. Visual evoked Potentials(VEP): Useful in evaluating Retro-Bulbar Optic neuropathy, Functional Blindness & Multiple Sclerosis.

    2. Brainsstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER): Useful in evaluating infantile Deafness, Multiple sclerosis, Acoustic Neuroma, Brain death.

    3. Somato Sensory Evoked Potentials(SSEP): Useful in Evaluating Spinal Cord Disorders, Radicuopathies & Central conduction in time.

  • Blink Reflex Study: This study is done to find out the cause of facial weakness & pain. It can also be used to find out the prognosis in Bells palsy & evaluation of more generalized nerve disorders.

  • Repetitive Nerve Stimulation Test(RNS): Test done to diagnose Myasthenia Gravis is with a repetitive nerve stimulation test/Decremental test.

  • Tremor Analysis : Test done to diagnose and differentiate between essential tremors parkinsonian tremors & dystonic tremors.
